looking attractive and green. Below are a few examples of shrubs that look good without requiring hours and hours
of maintenance stay this way.
1. Dwarf Alberta Spruce
This is an evergreen shrub that grows naturally into a conical shape when it isn’t being pruned regularly. Its
somewhat more formal appearance makes it an ideal option for front yards and entrance areas of commercial
properties. Its green needles grow to around ¾ of an inch long and this shrub is known for only growing a mere two
to four inches in height per year.
2. Gold Mound Spirea
In most cases, these shrubs will only require shearing once a year, making them ideal for property managers who are
looking for low maintenance plants. It provides good foliage and clusters of attractive pink flowers during the
summer months. On average, Gold Mound Spirea will grow to between four and six feet tall, with a slightly wider
spread.
3. Heather
Heather is an evergreen perennial shrub that blooms with white or purple flowers, and it is well known for being
extremely low maintenance. Owing to the fact that this is one of the first plants to bloom in early spring, it will also
welcome several bee and butterfly species into your garden.
4. Oakleaf Hydrangea
This shrub sprouts beautiful flowers while flowers that turn pinkish purple during summer and attractive foliage
throughout the fall months, while its bark peels to reveal different shades of color during the rest of the year. Oakleaf
Hydrangea will usually grow to heights of between four and six feet high in an upward direction, making it a great
low-maintenance plant choice.
5. Spilled Wine Weigela
If minimal maintenance is what you’re after, this shrub is an ideal choice for partly to fully sunny areas. It boasts
bright pink flowers while in bloom and generally reaches a maximum height of two to three feet tall and
approximately three feet wide. No pruning is needed to keep this plant blooming each spring and you’ll attract
several hummingbirds and butterflies to your garden at the same time.
6. Candy Oh! Rose
While this may not often be on top of the list where low maintenance shrubs are concerned, the Candy Oh! Rose is a
landscape shrub rose that requires little to no maintenance to look attractive. It is resistant to deer and disease and
can be pruned as often or as little as required. It provides any landscaping project with a pop of vibrant color when in
bloom during summer.
